A common problem with backup power systems is that the battery soon dies and needs to be replaced. In the case of this model designed by APC, once the battery is aged, a blaring buzzer sounds with no option to turn it off. I unplugged it years ago and it sat under my desk unused. But is it possible to remove the buzzer and continue to use this as a power strip? While our house was cut off from the electrical grid because of a storm, I wanted another power strip, so I opened this up and looked inside.

During the whole project, I was praying for the Lord to help me. And with his help, it was a success!
Inside, a view of the circuit board....
Schneider Electric made the APC Back-UPS 700. The buzzer is the black piece in the shape of a circle.
This little thing was loud and annoying.
The buzzer popped out of the board after applying the tip of a hot soldering iron. It turns out the unit works just fine as a power strip.... without the buzzer.
Additional Notes
Manual (UK version)
PDF indicates that some outlets are for surge protection only - which I think means even without a battery, these outlets may be used for electronics needing more than 700 Watts. Unit comes with a circuit breaker. If it trips, press the button on the side to reset it.
