I hear some Christians say they think they are justified by "faith alone".
I searched the book of Romans in the KJV Bible, where some think this doctrine is found.
The word
faith is found in
34 verses.
The phrase
faith alone is found in
0 verses.
The name
Christ is found in
68 verses.
The phrase
Christ alone is found in
0 verses.
But many today use the NIV. So I searched the entire text of the NIV for the phrase "faith alone" and it appears in only 1 verse:
James 2:24 | You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.
That verse is clear: A man is not made righteous by faith alone.
I believe: We are justified by a living faith in Christ.
Full stop.... period
But you will not hear me add the word "alone" to that sentence. To be living, faith must be active, otherwise it is dead faith.
Jesus is our Savior, the One Who leads us to salvation. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. There is no other way to the Father. He showed us the way when he carried his cross to Golgotha. We need to get up and do something: Take up our cross and follow Him to his eternal kingdom. If we sit down and do nothing, relying on "faith alone", we would find ourselves making no progress, or even regressing, and being left behind.
